Title | UNOPS in Asia Pacific: Leveraging Partnerships for Sustainable Development and Regional Resilience |
Descriptions | Mr Sanjay Mathur, Regional Director for Asia of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), will speak about the work of UNOPS in Asia and the Pacific. UNOPS is a UN agency specialising in infrastructure, procurement and project management, and has been implementing a number of development and peace-building projects in conflict zones, post-disaster situations and other challenging operational environments. This seminar will focus in particular on the current status and challenges of development cooperation in Asia, including Afghanistan and Myanmar, and how sustainable development can be achieved through strengthened partnerships. |

Descriptions | United Nations Volunteer programmes (UNV) contributes to development and peacebuilding by dispatching UN Volunteers to UN organizations around the world. In 2022, more than 12,000 UN Volunteers have been dispatched worldwide. In order to encourage more people to become UN Volunteers, Tokyo Liaison Office expands various activities in cooperation with governments, universities, and other organizations. In this seminar, a wide range of information on UN Volunteers will be provided. This includes volunteer assignments, benefits, requirements, application processes and career development through UN Volunteer oppotunities. The seminar welcomes the participation of current students and alumni, who are interested in gaining field experience during/after their graduate studies, UN careers, or taking a new step forward in life. Faculty and staff members in charge of career support are also welcome. |

Descriptions | International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is very important in the current world, where most contemporary armed conflicts are complex and mainly victimize civilians. This seminar series aims to provide necessary IHL training from the basics to the level that we can select those who join the University of Tokyo teams for IHL Moot Court and Role Play competitions and through that, to contribute in raising the next generation IHL practitioners. It is planned that educational materials created by the University’s International Law Training and Research Hub team will be used. Those who are not intending to participate in IHL Moot/Role Play are welcome to join the seminars. If you can only join one seminar, you are also welcome to attend. Those who are intending to join IHL competitions are most encouraged to join all the seminars. |
