HSP Seminar no.164 International Assistance in Promoting Legal Reforms and Its Implications for Human Security
This seminar discusses the latest trend of international cooperation and assistance in promoting legal reform in the three former Indochinese countries and legal cooperation initiatives involving other ASEAN countries. We will think about this international phenomenon from different perspectives: international law, international and regional politics, the globalization factor and domestic constitutional law debates. We also examine some existing critiques and technical challenges at the theoretical level. The objective of these talks is to familiarize participants with the theories and practices of international cooperation and the growing trends of cross-border technical legal assistance, particularly that provided by some donor countries and institutions to countries undergoing political and economic transitions.
